Originally a 17th-century inn constructed using local limestone, the recently renovated Hostellerie La Croix Blanche is a country house hotel located opposite the famous Fontevraud Abbey. It is 15 kilometres from Saumur and Chinon, amid the natural beauty of The Loire. Nantes Atlantique Airport is 60 kilometres away, with an approximate driving time of 60 minutes.

Steeped in history and well worth a visit, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, just 15 metres from the hotel, is claimed to be the largest monastic building in Europe and is the burial ground of the Plantagenet kings. Among the remaining tombstone effigies are those of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lionheart.

Getting there.
Hiring a rental car is the easiest way to get to the hotel. A shuttle bus links the airport with the SNCF train station in Nantes, from where a train can be caught to Saumur, 15 kilometres from the hotel. Fontevraud is best explored on foot or by bicycle, and a car is useful for travelling further afield around the Loire Valley.


Driving directions.From the airport follow directions to Saumur and continue on to Fontevraud. The hotel is up the hill in the centre of the town.
