Formerly the home of the British Consul-General in Madeira, Henry Veitch, the Hotel Quinta Jardim da Serra is an 18th century family residence located in a valley overlooking the Atlantic Ocean nine miles from the town of Funchal. Aerobus and taxi services are available from the airport. Central Funchal is small and can be explored on foot but a car is useful for seeing the rest of the island. Driving directions: From the Airport, take the motorway to Ribeira Brava. Exit at Câmara de Lobos; Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. Turn right and stay on the main road until a sign saying Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. Turn right again. At he next intersection, after the church, turn left. Turn left again at the next intersection where there is a sign saying Jardim da Serra, Foro. At the next intersection there is another sign indicating how to reach Quinta Jardim da Serra.
