--> * Botanic Garden 1 km W The Botanic Garden from Cluj is a scientific and teaching institution, subordinate to the Babes-Bolyai University. Alexandru Borza founded it in 1920, on a fourty-acre land with different geological configurations, suitable for growing plants from various continents. There are over 10,000 specific types of plants, an important number compared to other botanic gardens. This has made the Botanic Garden from Cluj become one of the most prestigious institutions of this kind in the world. It is divided into several departments ornamental, phytogeografic, systematic, economic and medicinal. In the phytogeografic department, there is a gyo-no-niwa Japanese garden, with specific landscape elements, representing the East. The garden also comprises plants from all Romanian regions the plain region, the Transylvanian plateau, Banat, Moldavia, Oltenia, the Carpathians, the cost of the Black Sea. Another special attraction is the Roman Garden. Also known as Pliny's garden, it is dominated by the Roman goddess Ceres' statue, on whose each side there is an original coffin discovered in the old Roman city of Napoca. Plants that used to grow in Roman cities and in Roman Dacian peasants' gardens can be admired in this garden. The 4-are systematic department is one of the most important deparments of the Garden. It comprises two greenhouses, with equatorial, tropical and subtropical plants, which are very useful to researchers. There are six greenhouse divisions aquatic plants, palm trees, Mediterranean and Australian vegetation, succulent plants, bromeliacea, ferns and orchirds. The herbarium and the botanic museum are other two attractions of the Garden. Over 7,000 types of plants from Romania and other countries are exhibited at the museum. The herbarium comprises 655,000 pages from all over the world these pages have special scientific value and they are at the disposal of Romanian and foreign students and researchers.
