Expert Tip. Barrio del Carmen, or el Carmen, is a very small area just north east of the old quarter of Valencia. There are numerous shops, theatres, bars and restaurants, and with its fountains and orange trees, Plaza del Carmen is an idyllic place to spend an afternoon. However lovely this area is by day, it really comes into its own at night. Packed with nightclubs, it's the place to head for a party.
