In 1934, a dedicated group of Sierra Club volunteers built Clair Tappaan Lodge. The Lodge is located 25 miles from Lake Tahoe in the Central Sierra Nevada and is situated on a forested hillside near historic Donner Pass. Its proximity to premier areas for winter skiing and summer hiking and climbing make it the perfect getaway retreat. Today the time-honoured Lodge is still thriving. The moment you step through the massive doors into the comfortable interior, it is evident that the lodge retains all of its original rustic charm. The Lodge boasts a cheerful dining room, a large living room with a huge fireplace, a cozy library with a wood-burning stove, a recreation room, and a hot tub. Sleeping accommodations include separate dormitories for men and women, small rooms for couples, and larger rooms for families. Guests must bring their own sleeping bags or bedding. The bathrooms are shared.

Clair Tappaan is located at 7000 feet in California's Sierra Nevada. It's 45 minutes west of Reno and one and a half hours drive east of Sacramento just off of Interstate 80. The address is 19940 Donner Pass Road in Norden. From eastbound I-80, take the exit for Soda Springs/Norden - old U.S. 40 - and go 2.4 miles east on Donner Pass road. The lodge is at 19940 Donner Pass Rd. old U.S. 40 . Look for our sign slightly up the hill on your left and the wide footpath leading up to the Lodge. Parking is available on either side of the road.

** GRDORM - Five to twelve single bunk dorms. Can be booked for families, small groups. ** MENDORM - The Men's dorm is available to everybody. The men's dorm holds 10 people. ** SEMIP - Cozy two-person room with a bunk bed. Good for people who want to experience the communal nature of the lodge but prefer a greater level of privacy. ** WMNDORM - The women's dorms are available to everybody. The women's dorm holds 23 people.

No deposit is required. Cancellations made more than 30 days before the arrival date will not be charged a cancellation fee. If reservations are made less than 30 days before the arrival date a 24-hour grace period will be given to make a cancellation without penalty. All other cancellations will be subject to the following policy - 7 or more days before arrival - 10 of the total reservation cancelled, whichever is greater. - 1 to 6 days before arrival -25 of total reservation amount cancelled. - Less than one day before arrival -50 of the total amount cancelled. Note Changing the dates of an existing reservation constitutes a cancellation of the dates in question. The only exception to the above policy is in the event of an official road closure by the State Department of Transportation due to weather call CAL TRANS at 1-800-427-ROAD , in which case no cancellation fees apply. Please note that NO CASH REFUNDS are handed out at the Lodge. All refund requests must be submitted to Clair Tappaan.
